What does Acupuncture feel like?
Most people find acupuncture painless, although there are some sensations you might experience. A tiny pinch at the site of insertion, tingling or mild throbbing may be felt. Usually these feelings are comfortable and relaxing. There may also be a slight sensation on some points (often described as a dull ache or tingling) when the needle initially meets the acupuncture point and this quickly fades.
Do you use disposable needles?
Yes, at Auckland Wellness Centre we only use the highest quality Japanese SEIRIN, single use Acupuncture needles. As members of the New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists we always adhere to strict hygiene and safety procedures.
What if I'm scared of needles?
Our SEIRIN Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and are nothing like the needles used for injections or blood tests. Most people are comfortable to have Acupuncture once they see how fine the needles are. The needles are inserted either for a few seconds or left in place for some time, depending on the results needed. However, if you prefer you can have Acupressure or Laser Acupuncture treatment without the use of needles.
Should I tell my doctor before receiving Acupuncture treatment?
If you are receiving treatment from your doctor or are on any medication we recommend you advise them you have decided to get Acupuncture. The Acupuncture may enable you to reduce or even stop taking some forms of medication, but your doctor should be consulted regarding any change of prescription. You should always tell your Acupuncturist about any medication you are taking or any medical conditions as it may affect your response to treatment.
Should I still come to my Acupuncture appointment if I am getting sick?
Absolutely! Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine is very effective for acute colds, flu’s and viruses so please come in for a session. You will feel better much faster and may not even get sick if you act quickly enough.
Is there a cancellation fee for missed appointments?
We require 24 hours notice for rescheduling or cancellation of an appointment, for missed appointments you may be charged 50% of the treatment fee.
What should I do/ not do before and after Acupuncture?
Make sure you have eaten something within 2 hours before treatment, but it is best not to eat 30 minutes just before treatment, if you do need to eat before treatment try to chose something light. It is best to avoid caffeine just before and after treatment. To ensure you get maximum benefit from your treatment we recommend avoiding busy or strenuous activity after treatment.
